An 18-year-old sex offender living in Mitchell could spend as many as five years in prison for violating the terms of his probation.
Dustin Nordrum served 75 days in jail after he was convicted in December of fourth-degree rape. Nordrum was also given a suspended five-year prison sentence by District Judge Sean O'Brien for the incident.
Nordrum was arrested April 16 for allegedly failing to provide a written notice of a change in his address, as is required by law for registered sex offenders.
He appeared in court Tuesday and admitted to the violation. The suspended five year prison sentence could be partly or completely reimposed.
Failure to provide notice of his change in address is a felony punishable by two years in prison and a $4,000 fine.

In his arrest April 16, Nordrum was also charged with distribution of a substance for the purpose of intoxication and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Both are misdemeanors with a maximum punishment of one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
As a result of plea negotiations, the state agreed to drop the misdemeanor charges if Nordrum pleaded guilty to the felony and admitted to violating his probation.
He is scheduled to enter a plea for the most recent charges later this month, at which time a sentence hearing will be scheduled.
