MOUNT VERNON -- A Stickney man suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries after he rolled his pickup at around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday about four miles south of Mount Vernon, authorities said.
Steven Van Gorp, 54, was charged with drunken driving and possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated after apparently losing control of his 2010 Dodge pickup near the intersection of 397th Avenue and 257th Street. Authorities say the crash occurred when the driver's side wheels of Van Gorp's vehicle entered the west ditch and struck a field approach, causing the vehicle to go airborne and roll.
Van Gorp was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash and was wearing a seat belt.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol handled the incident with assistance from the Davison County Sheriff's Office and Mount Vernon fire and ambulance.
