HURON - James River Water Development District Chairman Randy Stanley, of Groton, announced the district awarded $63,750 in cost-sharing assistance at a board of directors meeting Thursday in Huron.
The district awarded $2,000 to the town of Stickney in Aurora County for a comprehensive study of the town’s water system. The study evaluates Stickney’s water supply, storage and distribution system and recommends improvements to ensure the town’s residents and businesses will continue to receive quality water.
The district awarded $61,750 to the conservation districts within the James River Water Development District for 2014 tree planting efforts.
Each of the nine full counties within the District will receive $6,500. They are Beadle, Brown, Davison, Hanson, Hutchinson, Marshall, Sanborn, Spink and Yankton counties.
Aurora County, which is shared with the South Central Water Development District, will receive $3,250. These funds will encourage producers to plant trees to improve the environment by protecting the soil, improving water quality and to establish wildlife habitat.
