Sports: Mad Dogs down Killer Tomatoes, 12-1

PLATTE -- Alex Roeder pitched a complete game and got the win on the mound as the Mitchell Mad Dogs clobbered Platte 12-1 in a seven-inning Sunshine League baseball game here Thursday night.

Ross Van Zee took the loss for the Killer Tomatoes.

The Mad Dogs (12-8, 9-6 Sunshine) had 16 hits and each player had at least one hit.

Phil Johnson hit a grand slam in the first inning, Kyle Gerlach went 3-for-4, Jason Skinner went 3-for-4 with a triple and Matt Huber, Josh Nebelsick, Jeremy Skinner and Marty Takagi all had doubles for Mitchell.

Todd Strand doubled for Platte.

Up next, the Mad Dogs are host to Delmont at 7 p.m. Sunday at Cadwell.

Parkston Mudcats 13,

Corsica 5

PARKSTON -- The Parkston Mudcats strung together 16 hits in a 13-5 Sunshine League baseball win over Corsica here Thursday night.

Tyler Nolz got the win for the Mudcats (16-3, 13-2 Sunshine) and Jason Messer took the loss for Corsica (6-10, 6-10 Sunshine).

At the plate for Parkston, Mike Maxwell, Pat Harris, Travis Hallock, Jeff Heisinger, Mike Bowar and Matt Hoffman each had two hits and John Kalda had three hits.

For Corsica, Messer had two hits and Jeremy Wright had three hits. Corsica had seven hits in the game.

Up next, Parkston is at Mount Vernon Sunday.

Geddes 15,

Stickney 0

GEDDES -- Brian Oberoekling threw six no-hit innings as Geddes blanked Stickney 15-0 in a six-inning Sunshine League baseball game here Thursday.

Oberoekling had 11 strikeouts, but also walked seven batters. Aaron Tuschen took the loss for Stickney.

Geddes (14-4, 12-3 Sunshine) had 13 hits in the game. Ray Slaba and Ryan Paulson each had three hits and Matt Slaba had two hits.

Up next, Geddes is host to Dimock-Emery Sunday.

Parkston Rock Bass 8,

Delmont 5

DELMONT -- Cody Freudenthal went the distance on the mound and struck out 11 batters as the Parkston Rock Bass defeated Delmont 8-5 in a Sunshine League baseball game here Thursday.

Scott Redd took the loss for Delmont. The Rock Bass (5-10, 5-10 Sunshine) had nine hits and Delmont had six.

At the plate for Parkston, Billy Murtha, Jared Digmann, Cody Freudenthal and Lance Thiry all had two hits. For Delmont, Lee McCaskey had three hits.

Up next, Parkston is host to Tripp Thursday and Delmont is at the Mitchell Mad Dogs Sunday.

KC Cannons 17,

Plankinton 7

CHAMBERLAIN -- Kennebec-Chamberlain beat Plankinton 17-7 in an eight-inning Pony Hills League game here Thursday.

Plankinton had 13 hits and four errors and KC had 25 hits and three errors.

Jim Klages got the win on the hill for KC (17-4, 7-1 Pony Hills) and Preston Christensen took the loss for Plankinton.

At the plate for the Cannons, Scott Warrington went 5-for-6 with two doubles, Klages went 4-for-5 with two doubles, Brock Sundall went 4-for-5 and Derek Powell and Cole Knippling each had three hits.

Chris Arends, Trevor Boyd, Chris Hill, Rubin Earl and Christensen each had two hits for Plankinton.

Up next, KC is at Mount Vernon Friday.
