SPEARFISH (AP) -- The city of Spearfish is getting another high school.
Black Hills Christian Academy is adding high school courses to its established elementary school program. The nonprofit, nondenominational Christian school has 108 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. There will be about a dozen students in grades 9-12 next year. Existing facilities will be used.
School officials decided to create the high school program after requests from parents. Students initially will take online courses, and plans are in the works to have Black Hills State University students teach. The Christian Academy students will be able to take subjects such as band and choir at Spearfish High School and also will have the chance to play sports there.
