SPEARFISH (AP) - A Spearfish brewing company plans to change the name of a seasonal brew next year after complaints by an American Indian activist.

The Crow Peak Brewing Company’s seasonal brew is called Bear Butte Nut Brown Ale. United Urban Warrior Society President James Magaska Swan said Bear Butte in western South Dakota is a sacred place to the Lakota and the Cheyenne, KOTA-TV reported.

“It’s not discriminatory, it’s just the very fact that you’ve associated alcohol with Bear Butte,” he said.

Brewing company co-owner Josh Fritz said he had no ill intent when he named the beer.

“A lot of our beers are named after geographic locations in the (Black) Hills,” he said.
