CLARA CITY, Minn. — A 19-year-old woman was killed and a 75-year-old woman seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning, Jan. 7, on Minnesota Highway 7 in Chippewa County.
Hailey Ann Berghuis of Clara City, Minnesota, was killed. Gwendolyn Jane Heimer, 75, of Spearfish, South Dakota, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Berghuis was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country on Highway 7 west of Clara City and Eric Karl Heimer, 65, of Spearfish, South Dakota, was driving a 2018 Ford Explorer. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the CCM Health Hospital in Montevideo. Gwendolyn Heimer was a passenger in his vehicle.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that both vehicles were driving on Highway 7 when they collided near the intersection of 30th Avenue Southeast in Leenthrop Township, Chippewa County. The road conditions were described as snow- and ice-covered at the time.
The drivers and the passenger were wearing seat belts. Alcohol was not a factor, according to the accident report.
