TEA, S.D. — One person was killed and another suffered serious injuries in a rollover crash near Tea, South Dakota, Wednesday morning
Shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol were dispatched to mile marker 71 of Interstate 29 — near the Harrisburg and Tea exits — for a report of a rollover crash.
Preliminary crash information released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates that a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was northbound on Interstate 29 when the driver lost control while merging into the left lane of travel. The vehicle entered the median and rolled.
The 49-year-old female driver was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 52-year-old male passenger sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a Sioux Falls hospital. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.
Names of the two people involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol said road conditions are believed to have been a factor in the crash. In a Facebook post, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office noted that the interstate had become very slippery, and that authorities were responding to multiple rollover and injury crashes in the area to the south of Sioux Falls.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the crash.
