Two killed in Friday crash near Florence

The South Dakota Highway Patrol listed the vicitms as a 49-year-old male and 82-year-old female.

FLORENCE, S.D. — Two people were killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in northwestern Codington County.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Friday, April 7, authorities in Codington County were called to mile marker 389 of South Dakota Highway 20, roughly two miles east of Florence, for a report of a two-vehicle crash.

Preliminary crash information released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates that a 2005 GMC Yukon was driving eastbound on SD 20 when it crossed the center line and entered the westbound lane, colliding with a 2012 GMC Acadia.

Both the 49-year-old male driver of the Yukon and the 82-year-old female driver of the Acadia were pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, and no passengers were present in either vehicle.

Names of the two individuals killed have not yet been released pending notification of family members.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
