SIOUX FALLS — One person was killed and a second was injured Saturday evening after a vehicle-motorcycle crash in southern Sioux Falls.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. Saturday, authorities in Sioux Falls were dispatched to the intersection of 85th Street and Hughes Avenue in Sioux Falls for a report of a vehicle-motorcycle crash.

Preliminary crash information released by the Sioux Falls Police Department indicates that a white Dodge Ram pickup, model year unknown, was traveling westbound on 85th Street when it collided with a motorcycle, which was also in the westbound lane of travel.

An adult female passenger, of Sioux Falls, was killed as a result of the crash. The driver of the motorcycle, an adult male, also of Sioux Falls, was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital with "severe" injuries. Authorities did not indicate whether his injuries were life-threatening.

The age of the victims and their helmet use were not provided by the Sioux Falls Police Department.

Traffic was rerouted around the area during the investigation, which was led by the department's traffic section. That investigation remains ongoing.

Officials did not indicate if charges are pending against the driver of the Dodge Ram pickup.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "Mitchell Republic." Often, the "Mitchell Republic" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
