PIERRE (AP) -- South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers are out in force for a pre-Thanksgiving effort to raise public awareness of traffic laws.
The patrol says "Operation Safe" is a statewide, high-visibility effort to encourage travelers to make safe and responsible decisions on the highway. Most of the uniformed troopers from each of the patrol's three districts are out patrolling.
The day before Thanksgiving traditionally is one of the busiest travel days of the year. The patrol says the point of "Operation Safe" is education and awareness, not arrests.
