SIOUX FALLS (AP) - Sioux Falls voters will decide on a zoning issue related to a proposed super Wal-Mart on the city's south side.
City Clerk Lorie Hogstad says petitioners have gathered enough valid signatures to put the matter on the April 8 ballot.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. challenged the petitions, claiming that more than 2,000 of 6,502 signatures were invalid. But Hogstad says the number of valid signatures exceeded the 5,089 required to bring the matter to voters.
The opposition group Save Our Neighborhood circulated the petitions to refer a City Council decision to rezone 40 acres of land from agricultural use to commercial use to make way for the store.
Wal-Mart says it has agreed to several changes such as smaller signs to make the planned store a better fit for the neighborhood.
