SALEM -- Severe weather moved through the area Tuesday, leaving a few areas soaked and riddled with hail.

Around 4:15 p.m., McCook County Chief Deputy Sheriff Matt Bormann was driving in hail.

"I'm doing some weather-spotting right now," Bormann said in an interview with The Daily Republic.

"We've got some dime-sized hail," he added as the sound of hail pounding on metal nearly overpowered his voice. He said rainwater was beginning to flood some streets in Salem and he was waiting for another batch of bad weather to come through.

Mitchell had received 0.2 of an inch of rain as of 8 p.m., according to weather reports.
