SALEM - A Salem drug store that was hit in a Tuesday burglary is operational again as law enforcement continues its search for a suspect.
At about 11:17 p.m. Tuesday, Salem Community Drug Store was burglarized, and authorities recovered surveillance video that depicts a male suspect, according to the South Dakota Attorney General's Office, and the Division of Criminal Investigation is actively working on leads.
Bill Roth, owner of the store, said the alleged burglar broke a glass door and shorted some wires, causing the building to lose power. He did not disclose what was taken from the building.
The store's telephone company forwarded business calls to some cell phones, Roth said, and by the time the DCI agents left at noon Wednesday, the store was up and running.
"We were back up and running and functioning as normal as we could under the circumstances, and we're able to accommodate our customers as best we could," Roth said.

Roth said the suspect is still at large, and if he "had recognized him completely, he would be captured by now." However, Roth is "100 percent certain" the man is not a current or former store employee.
Salem Community Drug Store is a full-line drug store offering over-the-counter products, prescriptions, gifts, candy and other products that opened in Salem in 1984. Roth thanked the community and surrounding area for its support over the past 32 years and says he intends to keep the store open to continue serving people.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the McCook County Sheriff's Office at (605) 425-2761.
