Record SD corn harvest projected

Based on Nov. 1 conditions, South Dakota's corn crop is forecast at a record high 812 million bushels, up 6 percent from the Sept. 1 forecast and up 52 percent from last year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Acreage harvested for grain is estimated at 5.6 million acres, up 6 percent from last year and a record high. Average yield is forecast at 145 bushels per acre, second highest of record and up 44 bushels from last year.

Soybean production in South Dakota is forecast at 182 million bushels, up 12 percent from the Sept. 1 forecast, 26 percent above last year and the highest of record. Acres for harvest, at 4.55 million acres, are down 4 percent from the record high set in 2012. Yield is forecast at 40 bushels per acre, up five bushels from the Sept. 1 forecast, up 9.5 bushels from last year and the third highest on record.
