RAPID CITY - A psychiatric evaluation has determined that a Rapid City man accused of stealing a car at gunpoint and leading police on a chase two years ago is not fit to stand trial.
KEVN-TV reports that 37-year-old Luis Clifford will now go to the South Dakota Human Services Center for treatment, and a new report on his competency will be filed in about four months.
Authorities accuse Clifford of stealing a car at gunpoint in a store parking lot in October 2012 and leading officers on a chase on Interstate 90 that ended in Sturgis.
Clifford has pleaded not guilty to robbery, grand theft, aggravated assault and aggravated eluding charges. He could face life in prison if convicted.
