RAPID CITY (AP) -- A Rapid City man accused in a weekend stabbing says he was defending himself.
According to media reports, 29-year-old Alton Clifford made his initial court appearance on Monday on an aggravated assault charge. He is accused of stabbing 26-year-old James Lawrence of Rapid City on Saturday and putting Lawrence in the hospital in critical condition. Judge Heidi Linngren set Clifford's bond at $300,000.
Lawrence was found in a car in a Rapid Valley convenience store parking lot with multiple stab wounds.
Clifford says the stabbing occurred at his home and that he acted in self-defense.
