RAPID CITY (AP) - Rapid City firefighters have rescued two boys who got stuck in the muddy bottom of Canyon Lake.

The Rapid City Journal reports the fire department was called to the lake for an ice rescue but found the boys stranded in soft mud because the lake was drained for repairs. The 10- and 13-year-old boys were stuck up to their knees in mud about 100 feet from shore.

Firefighters used ladders and backboards to free the boys. They were released without injuries to their parents.
