RAPID CITY (AP) -- Rapid City area authorities are searching for a 17-year-old boy who escaped custody after being taken to a hospital for an evaluation.
The hospital notified the Pennington County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday that the teenager had fled on foot. Officers who responded discovered that the boy had entered two rooms at an assisted living center and taken an undisclosed amount of cash from one of them.
Authorities say the boy had been held at the Western South Dakota Juvenile Services Center on a probation hold for a nonviolent offense.
