PARKSTON -- A 51-year-old woman who was a passenger in a vehicle died following a two-vehicle crash Sunday, Sept. 26, about 13 miles east of Parkston.
Teri Gunderson, of Platte, was pronounced dead at the scene, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety said Friday morning. The driver, Ronald Hoeltzner, Sr., 59, of Platte, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Parkston hospital. Both were wearing seat belts.
The crash occurred when a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz was headed westbound on South Dakota Highway 44 when the driver, Morgan Edelman, 19, of Menno, failed to follow a roadway curve. The vehicle she was driving crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2007 Ford Mustang, driven by Hoeltzner.
Edelman suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Parkston hospital. She was not wearing a seat belt.
Authorities say charges are pending against both drivers. The crash occurred at about 4:05 p.m.
