PLANKINTON -- A Plankinton man died Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 281, 2 miles east of Plankinton, according to authorities.
Hermenegildo Rodriguez Guzman, 20, of Plankinton, was on the roadway of U.S. 281 at 11:54 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a Ford Explorer driven by Brock Burton Edgar, 25, of Rockham, according to a Friday press release from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
Guzman died from injuries sustained in the crash. The area was not lighted and Guzman was wearing dark clothing, according to the release. Edgar was traveling with his wife, Brooke Beverly Edgar, 27, of Rockham and their children in the vehicle.
They were traveling the posted speed limit of 65 miles per hour. All were wearing seatbelts and none in the vehicle were injured. There are no charges pending.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Aurora County Sheriff Department, Plankinton Fire and Rescue, and Plankinton Ambulance assisted at the scene.
