LOWER BRULE — Charges are pending against the 24 year-old driver involved in a rollover that killed a 4-year-old boy April 26 east of Pierre.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety said Thursday that charges are pending against Emerald Plenty Chief, a 24-year-old woman from Pierre, who was driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima at about 8:45 p.m. April 26 when it crashed in southeastern Hughes County.
Evrik Plenty Chief was killed, and 19-year-old Dakota Abraham, of Harrold, was seriously injured. The crash occurred on West Bend Road, 38 miles east of Pierre and near the section of the Missouri River that divides Hughes and Lyman counties. The vehicle left the roadway and two people were ejected. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
