RAPID CITY (AP) -- A South Dakota School of Mines student who was paralyzed during a high school wrestling tournament four years ago has landed a NASA internship.

According to media reports, Dusty Swanson is one of three South Dakota students accepted into the program. Swanson begins his 10-week internship in Houston May 21. He says it'll lay the foundation for him to work for the space agency in the future if he decides that's what he wants to do.

Swanson was a 15-year-old Hill City High School sophomore when he suffered a spinal injury at a wrestling match in Fort Pierre. He lost the use of his legs and has only partial use of his arms. The community continues to rally around him, organizing a Sunday fundraiser to help pay travel and living expenses.
