PIERRE - New South Dakota legislators are now up to speed on everything from drafting legislation to finding the bathrooms at the Capitol.

The state Legislative Research Council held an orientation session for new lawmakers on Monday, on the eve of Gov. Dennis Daugaard's budget address on Tuesday.

Council Executive Director Jason Hancock tells KCCR radio that 27 lawmakers were eligible to take part in the orientation. He says preparing to be a legislator can be an overwhelming experience, and the session gives new lawmakers the information they need to do their jobs.

The 2015 legislative session begins in January.
