One killed in skid loader incident

Cause remains under investigation

One person was died Wednesday when a skid loader was driven into the water on a farm in Minnehaha County.

According to a release from the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office, emergency personnel responded to a report of a skid loader driving into a pond on a farm. Prior to the arrival of emergency crews, family members and neighbors were able to use other equipment to remove the skid loader from the water. After the skid loader was removed, the body of a male was found.

Family members and emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, including dispatching a Life Flight, who also responded to the scene. Ultimately, the measures were unsuccessful and the victim died at the scene.

The cause of the incident is under investigation and further details will be available at a later date.

Also responding to the incident were the Colton Fire Department, Dell Rapids Ambulance and the Minnehaha Department of Emergency Management.
