SIOUX FALLS (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem has congratulated Matt Varilek on winning the Democratic primary for South Dakota's lone House seat.
Varilek defeated Barth Tuesday to challenge Noem in the November election.
In a statement, Noem says she hopes the upcoming campaign will focus on issues affecting South Dakotans. She listed the many accomplishments she says she's proud of during her 18 months in Congress. She says she will seek re-election on platforms of fiscal responsibility, replacing the health care law with one that gives patients more control and emphasizing the importance of the family farm.
She says, "I look forward to a spirited campaign on these and other important issues this fall."
