BOX ELDER (AP) -- The new mayor of Box Elder has removed the city's police chief and appointed an interim chief to replace him.
The media reports that Mayor William Griffiths would not say why he removed Timothy Ryan as chief, but said it is one of three positions that serve at the "pleasure" of the mayor. The other positions are public works director and city finance officer.
Sgt. Chris Misselt was appointed and sworn in after the City Council's executive session Tuesday.
Griffiths beat incumbent Mayor Al Dial by 7 votes during, or less than 2 percent of the total votes cast, during last month's election. Dial is asking for a recount.
