Name released in Pennington County fatal crash

South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate

BOX ELDER — A Box Elder man has been identified as the person who died Saturday, Nov. 20, in a one-vehicle crash east of Box Elder.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo was westbound on Highway 1416 when it left the roadway to the south, struck a guardrail, continued down the ditch and overturned.

Ronnie Oakie, the 51-year-old driver and only occupant, was not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at about 2:28 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 1416 and 151st Avenue, about one mile east of Box Elder.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
