Mitchell Technical Institute has canceled its public commencement ceremony, originally scheduled for May 8 at the Corn Palace, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In anticipation of the cancelation, members of the 2020 graduating class were surveyed regarding their preferences. Those class members elected to forego a formal ceremony this year and will instead receive a specially designed gift box mailed to them along with their diplomas, according to a press release from the school.

Due to the fact most MTI graduates accept full-time employment around graduation time, the school will not be rescheduling a public ceremony for 2020.
