LAS VEGAS -- Jill Moody just wanted to win a round or two at the National Finals Rodeo. She didn't wait long to get that out of the way.
Moody won the first performance in barrel racing Thursday night at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, a performance that earned her $16,394. The win pushed her yearly total over $100,000.
Moody finished in 14 seconds, one tenth of a second faster than the world's top-ranked Brittany Pozzi-Pharr, who finished second at 14.01. Vikki Solmonson was third at 14.03.
Thursday's performance was the first of 10 at the NFR, which runs through Dec. 15.
