LAS VEGAS -- Jill Moody's 10th and final performance at the National Finals Rodeo may not have gone exactly as she planned, but she probably won't be complaining after the 10-day event drew to a close Saturday.
The barrel racer from Letcher was penalized twice Saturday for hitting barrels and finished in 14th place in a time of 23.82. She actually dropped from eighth place entering the day to finish in 11th overall, though her winnings over the 10 days were among the most in the 118 participant field.
Moody won two performances and finished second twice, racking up $83,689.89 in winnings. In barrel racing, only champion Brittany Pozzi-Pharr and Lindsay Sears won more money, and nearly half of Pozzi-Pharr's earnings came for being the average champion.
Only six non-champions at the NFR, including Sears, won more money than Moody. However, three penalties throughout the course of the rodeo kept Moody from finishing higher than 11th in the standings.
