A Mitchell man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for assaulting, resisting and impeding a federal officer earlier this year.

John Willard Arcoren III, age 40, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison, followed by eight months of home confinement, two years of supervised release and a special assessment of $100. He was sentenced by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Roberto Lange on Nov. 5.

Arcoren was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 16 and pleaded guilty on Aug. 31.

Court documents said that Arcoren did physically "forcibly assault, resist, oppose, impede, intimidate and interfere" with a contracted officer of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in Todd County on May 14.

Arcoren was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
