A Mitchell man was sentenced to two years in prison for distributing controlled drugs.

Michael Huff, 29, was sentenced Tuesday during court at the Davison County Public Safety Center.

In December 2012, Huff sold a drug called Lorazepam at a gas station in Mitchell.

Judge Tim Bjorkman acknowledged that Huff’s drug use began when his younger brother died. Huff said he never went through counseling for that loss.

Bjorkman sentenced Huff to five years in prison, but suspended three of those years. Huff must abide by all laws, pay back court-appointed attorney fees, pay $600 in restitution, $314.20 in prosecution costs, $104 in court costs and obtain grief counseling while in prison.

His first parole eligibility will be in February 2015, Bjorkman said.
