A 22-year-old Mitchell man pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree escape after escaping from the backseat of a locked Mitchell police car.
Roderick Rouse entered the plea at the Davison County Public Safety Center, where he has been in custody since May 16 after escaping from the backseat of a police car by squeezing through a small unlocked plastic window separating the front and back seats of the vehicle. Rouse eluded law enforcement for about an hour before being arrested again near his residence at 901 W. Eighth St.
Charges of domestic assault and interfering with emergency communications were dropped as part of a plea agreement. Rouse faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for the escape.
A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing was set for June.
