A Mitchell man charged in March with choking a woman was given a 90-day suspended jail sentence last week.
Joshua Abdo Sr., 43, pleaded guilty by power of attorney Thursday to one count of simple assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor.
Mitchell police were called on March 15 to an apartment where a woman said Abdo had choked her. According to court documents, officers forced entry to the apartment after multiple attempts to get someone to open the door. Abdo was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a Class 3 felony.
Abdo was given credit for two days served and was ordered to complete a program for family violence counseling and pay fines and court costs totaling $471.50.
