Mitchell man dies after late-August crash near Chamberlain

Both occupants were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A Mitchell man has died as the result of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash that occurred Aug. 26 near Chamberlain, the Department of Public Safety announced Wednesday.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2016 Ford Taurus entered the ditch while attempting to exit the interstate. The vehicle entered the south ditch and rolled.

Armond Oehlerking, 87, of Mitchell was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. He died on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021.

An 84-year-old passenger sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries.

Both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
