MHS sophomore wins Voice of Democracy contest

Raina Grimsley, sophomore at Mitchell High School, has won the local 2014 Voice of Democracy contest.

Second place was awarded to Shelby Riggs and third place went to Destiny Pinder-Buckley, both of whom also attend Mitchell High School.

Grimsley's recorded essay on "Why veterans are important to our nation's history and future," was forwarded to district competition. She was awarded a $100 scholarship and a Voice of Democracy pin.

Mitchell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2750 and the Auxiliary sponsor the annual event for grades 9 to 12. The Voice of Democracy is the VFW premier scholarship program. Each year more than 40,000 students compete for more than $2.1 million in scholarships.
