Meyer second in scoring for Rampage

In just his first season of junior hockey, former Mitchell Marlins standout Dusty Meyer is making a big impact for the Tulsa Rampage.

Meyer has played in all 34 games so far for the Rampage, who are a part of the Western States Junior B Hockey League.

The 6-foot-2 forward is second on the team in total points so far this season with 37. He has 16 goals -- the third-most on the team -- and 21 assists, also the third-most for the Rampage.

With Meyer's help, Tulsa is 23-10-0-1 this season and is currently second in the Mid-Western Division of the WSHL. The last time the Rampage were on the ice, they played at the WSHL Showcase in Las Vegas Dec. 19-21.

The Rampage went 2-2. They lost 5-1 to the Phoenix Polar Bears, beat the San Diego Gulls 4-1, lost 4-2 to the San Antonio Diablos, but ended the showcase with a 4-3 win over the Valencia Flyers. Tulsa is off until Jan. 16-18 when it hosts the El Paso Rhinos for three games in Tulsa, Okla.

n Mitchell native Ryan Krome has started in all 12 games this season for the Southwest Minnesota State University men's basketball team.

Krome, who is fourth on the team in minutes played this season with 272, is averaging 6.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in his senior season. He has 24 assists on the season and is tied for first on the team with 11 steals.

In a Dec. 30 win over the University of Sioux Falls, Krome finished with three points and five rebounds. In the Mustangs' loss to the University of South Dakota Dec. 22, Krome had eight points and two rebounds.

n Former Daily Republic girls' basketball player of the year Megan Doyle is enjoying a successful sophomore season at Augustana College.

The former Hanson High School standout has started in all 10 games so far this season and is averaging 13.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Her 13.3 points per game are second on the team. Doyle has hit double figures in seven games this season and led the team in scoring on three occasions.

Doyle also leads the team in assists (35) and is second in steals (20). The Vikings are 7-3.

Doyle's teammate, Platte-Geddes graduate and another former Daily Republic player of the year, Teri VerSteeg, has seen playing time in six games. She has scored five points and grabbed one rebound.

n University of Northern Iowa junior Tyson Reiner was one of four Cyclones to place at the Midlands Championships wrestling tournament Dec. 29 and 30 when he finished eighth at 157 pounds.

Reiner, a Mitchell native, went 4-3 in the tournament. On Dec. 21, Reiner won a 19-6 major decision against George Mason's Frankie McLaughlin. A day earlier, he helped his team clinch a dual victory against No. 21 Old Dominion with a 13-5 major decision against Dan Rivera.

Reiner is 13-7 on the year.
