MCHS girls beat Dakota Christian

CORSICA -- The Mitchell Christian girls' basketball team surpassed its win total from all of last season Thursday night with a 46-34 win over Dakota Christian in Corsica.

CORSICA -- The Mitchell Christian girls' basketball team surpassed its win total from all of last season Thursday night with a 46-34 win over Dakota Christian in Corsica.

The Eagles' Mackenzie Van Laecken hit four 3-pointers and had a game-high 20 points, Natasha Klumb had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds and Mariah Nelson put up seven rebounds and five assists.

"That was a nice win," MCHS head coach Jackie Van Laecken said. "We played very good ball, and we had some good ball movement, too."

The Eagles shot 44 percent from the field, hit 5-of-5 from the line, allowed just two points in the second quarter and hauled in 31 total rebounds.

Dakota Christian (1-7) got eight points from Tess Overweg, Brooke Veurink and Katelyn Lieuwen. Overweg also led the team with six rebounds, and Chelsie Nelson had eight assists.

"The team is starting to build some confidence," Van Laecken added. "The key in winning was getting on the boards and being patient in the offense."

Mitchell Christian plays Corsica on Monday, while Dakota Christian is at Marty next.
