George McGovern said Wednesday he supports same-sex marriage. President Obama announced Wednesday that he fully supports samesex marriage. McGovern, who is at his home in St. Augustine Beach, Fla., said he was pleased when he heard that news.
"I'm a 'conservative' when it comes to marriage. I think if two people love each other, are living together and having sex, they ought to get married," McGovern said.
That goes for same-sex couples as well as traditional couples, he said. McGovern, who turns 90 this summer, said he has always supported civil rights for all Americans, and that includes gay people.
