Marvin Miller Steele, 78, Plankinton, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Plankinton. Burial will be in Mizpah Cemetery, Plankinton, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 26, Stickney. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
The Shearer-Mount Funeral Home, Plankinton, is assisting with arrangements.
He was born on April 29, 1930, in Plankinton to Grady and Eunice (Miller) Steele.
He grew up in Pleasant Lake Township and attended Pleasant Lake Consolidated School. He graduated from Plankinton High School in 1948.

Serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1955, he spent his tour in El Paso, Texas. He returned home to farm with his father.
On April 15, 1967, he married Donna Fraser at Edgerton Presbyterian Church, Edgerton, Minn.
He was a member of United Methodist Church and belonged to Odd Fellows Lodge for more than 50 years. He was also a member of Aurora County Historical Society, the South Dakota Republicans and American Legion Post No. 26 in Stickney.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Gregory and wife Rachel, Plankinton; two daughters: Gayle Anderson and husband Troy, Crooks; and Glenda Gerlach and husband Jaylon, Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, two sisters: Virginia Hobson and Velma Gilbert, both of White Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Mildred and Myrna; and his grandparents.
