LAKE ANDES-A Lake Andes man arrested in July for stealing three cans of beer from an apartment was given a sentence Tuesday that included paying $3 in restitution.
Police received a call on July 20 stating that 40-year-old Jonathan Abdo had broken into the apartment, and they were later told that Abdo had entered through a sliding glass door and that the man who lived in the apartment had noticed three beers missing from his refrigerator.
Abdo was arrested five days later and charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree petty theft of $400 or less.
The petty theft charge was ultimately dismissed, and the burglary charge was reduced to a Class 1 misdemeanor charge of entering or surreptitiously remaining in a building, to which he pleaded guilty and was sentenced Tuesday.
In addition to being ordered to pay $3 in restitution by Judge Donna Bucher, Abdo must pay $360 in court costs and fines. He was sentenced to a 30-day jail sentence with 28 days suspended and credit for two days served.
