FREEMAN -- A 21-year-old man will be charged with driving under the influence and driving without a license after his vehicle rolled Sunday night outside Freeman.
Craig Bland was driving a 1997 Buick LeSabre on 438th Avenue. He was driving too fast, said Hutchinson County Sheriff Jim Zeeb, when the vehicle fishtailed.
Bland allegedly didn't slow down and the vehicle slid into the west ditch. When it hit the bottom of the ditch, the tires caught, and the vehicle rolled and landed on its tires.
The Freeman Fire Department and Ambulance responded to the scene. Emergency personnel had to cut Bland's passenger, Natalie Dykstra, 24, from the vehicle. She was not wearing her seat belt, Zeeb said, and she had been thrown from the front seat to the back seat. Dykstra was airlifted to a hospital in Sioux Falls and Bland was taken by Freeman Ambulance to a hospital in Sioux Falls. The vehicle is totaled. Zeeb said Bland and Dykstra remain in the hospital.
