Man charged with sexual abuse in Lower Brule

LOWER BRULE -- Federal charges have been filed against a man accused of sexually abusing a woman on the Lower Brule reservation last year.

Herbert Eagle Thunder is charged with sexual abuse of a person incapable of consent and abusive sexual contact, according to an indictment filed Sept. 14.

The alleged offenses, the indictment states, occurred between Aug. 4 and Aug. 8, 2018, at which point Eagle Thunder had previously been convicted in U.S. District Court of aggravated sexual abuse.

Charges were originally filed against Eagle Thunder in July, but the case was sealed until earlier this month, and superseding information was entered with the court on Aug. 14.
