A Mitchell man was arrested Thursday night on first-degree rape charges, according to authorities.
Mitchell Police Division Detective Lt. Don Everson said Casey Girard, 22, was arrested around 9 p.m. Thursday after the police received a tip about a sexual assault.
Everson said around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities received information that a 4-year-old had been sexually assaulted by a caregiver. Based on that information, Everson said police interviewed Girard at the police department, where Girard allegedly admitted to engaging in several sex acts with the 4-year-old over approximately two months.
Everson said the alleged acts took place while the child was left in Girard’s care.
Everson said authorities arrested Girard on one count of first-degree rape, a felony. According to Everson, Girard is the seventh Mitchell resident arrested since Oct. 31 for sex crimes against children.
