MADISON (AP) - A Madison man is facing a charge of second degree murder in the shooting death of a woman at Lake Madison.

KSFY television reports that the Lake County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a call Wednesday night. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a 46-year-old woman from Madison dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Deputies investigated and arrested 46-year-old Joseph Michael Schmitz, of Madison, on a charge of second degree murder. He is being held at the Lake County Detention Center on a $1 million cash-only bond. Attorney information for Schmitz was not immediately available.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting in the investigation.

Schmitz is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
