A Mitchell man whose girlfriend stabbed him was arrested for simple assault and possession of marijuana Friday night.
Brent Silk Jr., 25, was arrested after an altercation with his girlfriend, according to Joel Reinesch, patrol sergeant with the Mitchell Police Division.
Silk and his girlfriend, whose name is not being released, were arguing at an apartment on the 500 block of South Main Street at about 11:10 p.m.
The argument allegedly escalated to the point that the woman felt she needed to defend herself, and stabbed Silk in the left shoulder with a flat-edged kitchen knife, Reinesch said. He said it appears the woman stabbed Silk out of self defense.
Silk received minor injuries-a puncture wound-Reinesch said, and Silk was arrested for simple assault. Silk was also charged with possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana.
