A Mitchell man was arrested Monday and charged with the solicitation and rape of a 15 year old.
The victim reportedly told police that the two met in person at least once to engage in sexual activity, although 42-year-old James Christopher reportedly told police he did not remember that.
According to court documents, police confirmed that Christopher's phone number matched the number that had been sending sexually explicit text messages to the victim's phone. To hide his identity, Christopher allegedly used a fake name when talking to the victim.
The victim accurately described the location of Christopher's home, and Christopher told police he remembered the victim's name and features.
Christopher is charged with fourth-degree rape of a victim at least 13 but not 16, a Class 3 felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine, and solicitation of a minor, a Class 4 felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
