Malloy scores 27 as Parkston defeats Beresford

PARKSTON -- The Parkston National Guard Armory gymnasium was a busy place on Saturday as 16 South Dakota girls' basketball teams showcased their talent in eight different games at the 28th Annual Parkton Holiday Girls' Basketball Classic.

Eight area teams were in attendance, including the No. 7 Trojans and No. 9 Wagner.

The showcase game was the final matchup of the night when No. 1 Milbank took on No. 2 Dell Rapids.

Dell Rapids was able to upset Milbank 47-41 in the showdown of the Class A top two.

Parkston 54, Beresford 45

PARKSTON -- Parkston used a game-high 27 points from Maggie Malloy to propel itself to a 54-45 win over Beresford Saturday in Parkston.

The No. 7 Trojans held a two-point lead after the first quarter, and built on that in the next three quarters in the win.

Kelli Fiegen scored 12 points for Parkston and had 10 rebounds and five blocks. Malloy added eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists.

Cori Bonte scored 18 points and Nicky Huth added 16 for Beresford. Bonte had eight assists and six steals and Huth had 12 rebounds.

The Trojans host Vermillion Friday.

Colome 40, Scotland 30

PARKSTON -- Colome allowed Scotland just four points in the second quarter while scoring 15 of its own on its way to a 49-30 victory Saturday in Parkston.

Scotland scored 15 points in the final quarter, but couldn't overcome the deficit after scoring only two points in the third quarter.

Alisyn Graesser led Colome with 18 points and nine rebounds. Collene Cahoy and Emily London each grabbed six rebounds. London and Morgan Hughes each had five steals.

Calsie Skorepa led Scotland with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Molly Kokesh had six rebounds.

The Cowgirls will host Platte-Geddes on Friday and the Highlanders will be at Avon Thursday.

Avon 54, Ethan 18

PARKSTON -- Avon, ranked No. 7 in Class B in the latest SDNA poll, held Ethan to just one point in the first quarter as it rolled to a 54-18 victory Saturday in Parkston.

The Pirates didn't allow the Rustlers to hit double digits in any quarter.

Megan Poppe scored 14 points to pace Avon. Kela Cihak added 13. Cassie Bierman and Cihak each had nine rebounds.

Shelby Andersen scored 10 points to lead Ethan and Cady Henglefelt had seven rebounds.

Avon will host Scotland Thursday and Ethan hosts Kimball Friday.

Colman/Egan 67, Hanson 63

PARKSTON -- Hanson fought back from a nine-point halftime deficit to tie the score at the end of the third quarter, but No. 3 Colman/Egan held on to defeat the Beavers, tied for No. 5 in Class B, 67-63 Saturday.

Cami Koehn led the way for Colman/Egan, pouring in 32 points to lead all scorers. She also had 12 rebounds. Paige Nelson added 17 points and Morgan May scored seven rebounds and Lexi Foster had five.

Four Hanson players hit double digits in schoring. Amanda Hart scored 16 points, Rhianna Gullickson had 13 and Bethany Gross and Amanda Murray each added 11.

Gullickson also had 11 rebounds and Murray had six. Megan Carmody had eight assists and Hart had seven.

The Beavers play next on Thursday against Stickney/Mount Vernon, in Mount Vernon.

Lennox 49, Stickney/Mount Vernon 47

PARKSTON -- Stickney/Mount Vernon held a four-point lead heading into the final quarter, but Lennox outscored the Knights 17-11 in the fourth as it scored a 49-47 win Saturday in Parkston.

Lexi Christensen was the only player to hit double digits for Stickney/Mount Vernon with 16 points. Angie Koch and Alicia Schrank each had five rebounds.

Kara Larson led Lennox with 14 points, Kassie Loe scored 11 and Kelsie Klusmann added 10.

The Knights host Hanson Thursday in Mount Vernon.

Sisseton 54, Wagner 50

PARKSTON -- Sisseton took advantage of free throw opportunities down the stretch to seal a 54-50 win over Wagner Saturday in Parkston.

Serena Soukup led the Red Raiders with 13 points. Keaya Weber scored 10. Jilanne Doom had seven rebounds for Wagner.

Kelsey Grumsrud led all scorers with 26 points and Melissa Nigg added 19. Both Grumsrud and Nigg had seven rebounds and Krista Strickland had nine assists.

The Red Raiders will host Bon Homme on Thursday.

Sully Buttes 56, Pipestone, Minn. 52

PARKSTON -- Alexis Yackley scored 20 points to lead Sully Buttes to a 56-52 victory over Pipestone, Minn., Saturday in Parkston.

Elizabeth Lamb added 17 points and Kylee Lamb scored 12. Yackley also had six rebounds and five assists.

Faith Tinklenberg led Pipestone with 20 points. Bailey Bouman added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Dell Rapids 47, Milbank 41

PARKSTON -- Dell Rapids held Milbank to just two points in the first quarter as it upset the No. 1 team in Class A 47-41 Saturday in Parkston.

The No. 2 Quarriers were led by 14 points from Whitney Lickteig and 12 from Megan Paul.

Amber Wollschlager led Milbank with 23 points, five rebounds and five steals.

White Lake 62, Jones County 46

MURDO -- Four players hit double digits in scoring for White Lake as it defeated Jones County 62-46 Saturday in Murdo.

Lacey Kristensen scored 14 points, Kendra Hanten had 13, Sara Konechne added 12 and Jill Guericke 10 for the Wolverines.

Kristensen also led White Lake with 15 rebounds and Konechne grabbed 12. Hanten had five steals.

Mary Volmer led Jones County with 23 points, six rebounds and three steals.

The Wolverines are now 2-5 and host Plankinton Friday. Jones County fell to 0-6 with the loss.

Jones County won the JV game.

Red Cloud 64, Platte-Geddes 57

WINNER -- Marque Lunderman scored 28 points to lead Red Cloud to a 64-57 win over Platte-Geddes Saturday at the Snowball Classic in Winner.

Ida Clarke added 10 points for the Crusaders, who are now 6-1.

Kendra Knudson led the Black Panthers with 15 points and Teri VerSteeg added 14.

Platte-Geddes is now 4-2 and will play Friday at Colome.

Miller 53, Winner 40

WINNER -- Host-school Winner was defeated 53-40 by Miller Saturday at the Snowball Classic in Winner.

Amanda Mentzer led all scorers with 18 points for Miller, which is now 5-1.

Megan Phillips led the Warriors, who are now 4-2, with 12 points.

Winner will play Thursday when it hosts Todd County.

Huron Classic

HURON -- Avon had a busy day on Saturday when it played twice at the Huron Classic. The Pirates won both games and were crowned champions Saturday night at Huron.

In the championship game, Avon defeated Iroquois 62-40. The Pirates held a slim lead early on, but outscored Iroquois 19-4 in the third quarter to pull away.

Matt Dykstra led Avon with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Earv Archambeau added 18 points and Will Yule scored 13.

Marshall Cihak and Jeff Bertus each had five rebounds for the Pirates, which shot 56 percent from the field.

Chase DeJong led Iroquois, scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Iroquois made 80 percent of its freethrows but shot just 34 percent from the field.

To get to the title game, Avon defeated Campbell County 42-29 in an early game Saturday.

The Pirates went on a 10-2 run in the third quarter to pull away and added 12 more points in the final quarter to seal the win.

Archambeau led Avon with 12 points and Adam Oster scored 11. Dykstra had nine rebounds, five steals and three blocks.

Avon is now 5-1 and is off until Jan. 5 when it hosts Irene-Wakonda.

Winner 67, Pine Ridge 58

WINNER -- Winner outscored Pine Ridge 17-11 in the third quarter on its way to a 67-58 win Saturday at the Snowball Classic in Winner.

Seth Daughters led the Warriors with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Zach Horstman scored 19 points and added 10 rebounds of his own.

Winner controlled the boards 35-18 and shot 50 percent from the field to Pine Ridge's 41 percent.

Ezra Zephier led Pine Ridge with 16 points, Jared Eagle Bull scored 12 and Shawn Keith 11.

The Warriors are now 3-2 and host Lyman Friday. Pine Ridge fell to 4-5.

Red Cloud 77, Platte-Geddes 63

WINNER -- In the showcase game of the night, it was Red Cloud, ranked No. 2 in Class A, that was victorious over No. 6 Platte-Geddes, 77-63.

Platte-Geddes went down early and couldn't catch up, despite scoring 19 points in the second quarter and 15 in the third.

Christian McGhee led all scorers with 27 points for Red Cloud and Lester Gotheridge added 13.

Keith Cutler led the Black Panthers with 26 points, Thad Campbell scored 12 and Colin Ringling and Jordan Johnson each scored 11.

Red Cloud stayed perfect at 7-0 and Platte-Geddes fell to 3-2. The Black Panthers will play Langford Jan. 5 in Redfield.
