One dead in car versus pedestrian crash north of Marty

The 59-year-old female driver was not injured.

MARTY, S.D. — One person died Saturday, Sept. 24 in a vehicle-pedestrian crash that occurred north of Marty. 

Authorities responded to reports of a crash three miles north of Marty at approximately 10:52 p.m.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe was southbound on 388th Avenue when the vehicle hit a 26-year-old female who was lying in the roadway.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 59-year-old female driver was not injured.

Her seatbelt use is under investigation. 

Names of the two people involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members.  

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
